Indications:<\/strong>
Used to treat bacterial infections caused by susceptible organisms, including:<\/p>\n

    \n
  • \n

    Upper and lower respiratory tract infections (pharyngitis, tonsillitis, bronchitis)<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

  • \n

    Otitis media<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

  • \n

    Urinary tract infections<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

  • \n

    Gonorrhea (uncomplicated)<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

  • \n

    Skin and soft tissue infections<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    Mechanism of Action:<\/strong>
    Cefixime inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis by binding to penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs), leading to the rupture and death of bacterial cells.<\/p>\n

    Dosage and Administration:<\/strong><\/p>\n

      \n
    • \n

      Adults and children >12 years:<\/strong> 200\u2013400 mg daily (once or divided twice daily).<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

    • \n

      Children (6 months\u201312 years):<\/strong> 8 mg\/kg\/day, either as a single dose or divided into two doses.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

    • \n

      Route:<\/strong> Oral<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

    • \n

      Shake the bottle well before each use. Administer with or without food, but preferably after meals to reduce stomach upset.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

      Precautions:<\/strong><\/p>\n

        \n
      • \n

        Contraindicated in patients allergic to cephalosporins or penicillins.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

      • \n

        Use with caution in renal impairment; dose adjustment may be necessary.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

      • \n

        Complete the full course even if symptoms improve.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

        Possible Side Effects:<\/strong><\/p>\n

          Diarrhea, nausea, abdominal pain<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

        • \n

          Headache<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

          Rash or allergic reactions<\/p>\n<\/li>\n
