Ateno 100 mg (20 Tablets)

Active Ingredient:

• Atenolol 100 mg – Beta-1 selective adrenergic blocker

Therapeutic Class:
Beta-blocker – Antihypertensive and antianginal agent

Indications:

• Hypertension (high blood pressure)

• Angina pectoris (chest pain due to reduced blood flow to the heart)

• Arrhythmias (irregular heartbeats)

• Post-myocardial infarction management (to reduce risk of further cardiac events)

Dosage:

• Usual adult dose: One tablet (100 mg) once daily

• May be taken with or without food

• Dose adjustment should be based on clinical response and tolerance

• Should not be discontinued abruptly; reduce gradually under medical supervision

Mechanism of Action:

• Atenolol selectively blocks beta-1 adrenergic receptors in the heart

• Reduces heart rate, cardiac output, and myocardial oxygen demand

• Lowers blood pressure and helps prevent angina attacks

Precautions:

• Contraindicated in:

  • Severe bradycardia

  • Heart block greater than first degree

  • Cardiogenic shock

  • Untreated heart failure

  • Hypersensitivity to atenolol or other beta-blockers

• Use with caution in:

  • Diabetic patients (may mask symptoms of hypoglycemia)

  • Patients with peripheral vascular disease or asthma

  • Renal impairment (dose adjustment may be necessary)

Possible Side Effects:

• Fatigue or tiredness

• Dizziness or lightheadedness

• Cold extremities (hands or feet)

• Bradycardia (slow heart rate)

• Gastrointestinal discomfort or nausea

• Rare: Sleep disturbances, depression, or allergic skin reactions
