Medication Name: Amrizole 250 mg Tablets (20 Tablets)
Active Ingredient: Metronidazole 250 mg

Pharmacologic Class: Nitroimidazole antibacterial and antiprotozoal agent

Indications:

• Amoebiasis (intestinal or hepatic)

• Giardiasis

• Trichomoniasis

• Bacterial vaginosis

• Dental and gum infections caused by anaerobic bacteria

• Certain gastrointestinal or postoperative anaerobic infections

Dosage and Administration:

• Typical adult dose: 250 mg every 8 hours for 7–10 days (depending on indication).

• The dose may vary based on infection type, severity, and clinical condition.

• Take with or after meals to minimize stomach upset.

• Swallow the tablet whole with water.

• Do not stop the course early even if symptoms improve.

Contraindications:

• Hypersensitivity to metronidazole or other nitroimidazole derivatives.

• History of blood dyscrasias or active neurological disorders.

• Avoid alcohol use during treatment and for at least 48 hours after the last dose.

Precautions:

• Use with caution in patients with liver impairment.

• Dose adjustment may be needed in renal dysfunction.

• Avoid unnecessary or prolonged use to prevent resistance and neuropathy.

• Use in pregnancy (especially first trimester) only if clearly indicated.

• Monitor for drug interactions (e.g., warfarin, lithium, phenytoin).

Common Side Effects:

• Nausea, vomiting, abdominal discomfort

• Metallic taste

• Headache, dizziness

• Dark urine (harmless, temporary change)

Serious Side Effects (rare):

• Peripheral neuropathy with prolonged use

• Seizures or encephalopathy

• Allergic rash or urticaria
