Active Ingredient:
Ceftriaxone 1000 mg

Pharmacological Class:
Third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic

Indications:
Used to treat a wide range of bacterial infections, including:

• Respiratory tract infections (such as pneumonia and bronchitis)

• Urinary tract infections

• Skin and soft tissue infections

• Intra-abdominal infections

• Bone and joint infections

• Gonorrhea

• Meningitis

• Septicemia (bloodstream infections)

Mechanism of Action:
Ceftriaxone inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis by binding to penicillin-binding proteins, leading to bacterial lysis and death.

Dosage:

• Adults: 1–2 g once daily, or divided into two doses every 12 hours depending on infection severity.

• Children: 50–75 mg/kg/day (maximum 2 g/day).

• Administered intramuscularly (IM) or intravenously (IV) as directed by a physician.

Precautions:

• Do not use in patients with known allergy to cephalosporins.

• Use cautiously in patients allergic to penicillin.

• Dose adjustment may be required in severe hepatic or renal impairment.

• Avoid use with calcium-containing IV solutions in neonates.

Possible Side Effects:

• Pain, redness, or swelling at the injection site

• Diarrhea, nausea, or vomiting

• Skin rash or mild allergic reactions

• Headache or dizziness

• Rarely: Pseudomembranous colitis, blood cell count changes, or elevated liver enzymes
