Medication Name: Betadine Mouthwash 120 ml
Active Ingredient: Povidone-iodine 1% w/v

Indications:

Betadine Mouthwash is used for:

• Reducing oral bacteria and pathogens

• Preventing and treating infections in the mouth and throat

• Relief of sore throat, gum infections, or mouth ulcers

• Pre- and post-dental procedure antiseptic rinse

Mechanism of Action:

• Povidone-iodine releases iodine, which has broad-spectrum antimicrobial activity.

• Kills bacteria, fungi, and some viruses by disrupting cell membranes and proteins, preventing infection.

Dosage and Administration:

• Dilute according to instructions (often 1–2 teaspoons in 1/2 cup water) unless using ready-to-use formulation.

• Rinse the mouth for 30–60 seconds, then spit out.

• Use 2–3 times daily or as directed by a healthcare professional.

• Do not swallow the mouthwash.

Side Effects:

• Temporary staining of teeth or tongue

• Mild irritation or burning sensation in the mouth

• Rare allergic reactions (rash, swelling, or throat irritation)

Warnings and Precautions:

• For oral use only, do not swallow.

• Avoid in patients with thyroid disorders unless advised by a doctor.
