Torseretic 5 mg (30 Tablets)

Active Ingredient:

• Torsemide 5 mg

Therapeutic Class:
Loop Diuretic (Water Pill) – Antihypertensive and Anti-edema Agent

Indications:

• Edema (fluid retention) associated with:

  • Congestive heart failure

  • Chronic kidney disease

  • Liver cirrhosis

• Hypertension (high blood pressure) – alone or in combination with other antihypertensives

Dosage:

• Edema: Usually 5–20 mg once daily, adjusted according to response.

• Hypertension: Typically 5 mg once daily; may be increased if needed.

• Should be taken in the morning to avoid nocturnal urination.

• Can be taken with or without food.

Mechanism of Action:
Torsemide inhibits the Na⁺/K⁺/2Cl⁻ cotransporter in the thick ascending limb of the loop of Henle, leading to:

• Increased excretion of sodium, chloride, and water

• Reduction in blood volume and venous pressure

• Decreased edema and blood pressure

Precautions:

• Contraindicated in:

  • Severe electrolyte imbalance (especially hypokalemia or hyponatremia)

  • Anuria (no urine output)

  • Hepatic coma

  • Hypersensitivity to torsemide or sulfonamides

• Use cautiously in:

  • Renal impairment

  • Diabetes mellitus (may alter glucose tolerance)

  • Gout (may increase uric acid)

  • Patients on digoxin (risk of low potassium increasing toxicity)

• Monitor electrolytes, renal function, and blood pressure regularly.

Possible Side Effects:

• Dizziness or hypotension (especially after standing)

• Dehydration or excessive urination

• Hypokalemia (low potassium)

• Hyponatremia (low sodium)

• Increased uric acid or blood glucose

• Muscle cramps or weakness
