Active Ingredients:

• Atenolol 100 mg

• Chlorthalidone 25 mg

Therapeutic Class:
Combination of Beta-blocker and Thiazide-like Diuretic – Antihypertensive

Indications:

• Primary Hypertension (High Blood Pressure): For patients whose blood pressure is not adequately controlled by atenolol or chlorthalidone alone.

Dosage:

• Usual Adult Dose:

  • One tablet once daily.

  • Dose may be adjusted based on blood pressure response.

• May be taken with or without food, preferably at the same time each day.

• Not recommended in children.

Mechanism of Action:

• Atenolol: A selective beta₁-blocker that reduces heart rate, cardiac output, and blood pressure by blocking sympathetic stimulation of the heart.

• Chlorthalidone: A thiazide-like diuretic that increases the excretion of sodium and water, reducing blood volume and lowering blood pressure.

• The combination provides synergistic blood pressure control through complementary mechanisms.

Precautions:

• Contraindicated in:

  • Severe bradycardia, heart block, or cardiogenic shock

  • Uncontrolled heart failure

  • Anuria or severe renal impairment

  • Hypersensitivity to either component

• Use with caution in:

  • Diabetes mellitus (may mask hypoglycemia symptoms)

  • Gout or hyperuricemia (chlorthalidone may increase uric acid)

  • Electrolyte imbalances (may cause hypokalemia or hyponatremia)

  • Peripheral vascular disease or asthma (atenolol may worsen symptoms)

• Monitor renal function, electrolytes, and blood pressure regularly.

Possible Side Effects:

• Fatigue, dizziness, or cold extremities

• Bradycardia (slow heart rate)

• Hypotension (low blood pressure)

• Increased uric acid or glucose levels

• Electrolyte disturbances (low potassium or sodium)

• Nausea or gastrointestinal upset
