Tavanic 500 mg 5 Tablets

Indications:
Used to treat bacterial infections caused by susceptible organisms, including:

• Community-acquired and nosocomial pneumonia

• Complicated urinary tract infections and pyelonephritis

• Skin and soft tissue infections

• Chronic bronchitis exacerbations

• Intra-abdominal and septicemia-related infections

Mechanism of Action:
Levofloxacin inhibits bacterial DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, enzymes required for bacterial DNA replication, transcription, and repair, leading to bacterial cell death.

Dosage and Administration:

• Typical adult dose: 500 mg IV once daily (infused over 60 minutes).

• Duration: 5–14 days depending on infection type and severity.

• Dose adjustment required in renal impairment (CrCl < 50 mL/min).

• May switch to oral form once clinical improvement is achieved.

Side Effects:

• Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea

• Headache, dizziness, insomnia

• Injection site reaction

• Rare: tendon rupture, QT prolongation, peripheral neuropathy, hypersensitivity reactions

Precautions:

• Contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to levofloxacin or other quinolones.

• Avoid use in pregnancy, lactation, and pediatric patients unless absolutely necessary.

• Use with caution in patients with seizure disorders, renal impairment, or cardiac arrhythmias.

• Avoid concurrent use with corticosteroids, NSAIDs, or QT-prolonging agents.

Storage:
Store below 25°C, protect from light. Do not freeze.
Use immediately after opening and discard any unused portion.
