Indications:
Used to treat bacterial infections caused by susceptible organisms, including:

• Urinary tract infections

• Respiratory tract infections

• Gastrointestinal infections (including typhoid fever)

• Skin and soft tissue infections

• Bone and joint infections

• Certain sexually transmitted infections

Mechanism of Action:
Ciprofloxacin inhibits bacterial DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, enzymes essential for DNA replication and repair, leading to bacterial cell death.

Dosage and Administration:

• Adults: 500 mg every 12 hours (dose varies depending on infection type and severity).

• Route: Oral

• Should be taken with water and swallowed whole.

• Avoid taking with dairy products or calcium-fortified juices, as they reduce absorption.

Precautions:

• Contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to fluoroquinolones.

• Use cautiously in patients with seizure disorders or severe renal impairment.

• Avoid exposure to excessive sunlight or UV light.

• Should not be taken with tizanidine (risk of severe hypotension).
