Flagyl 125mg\5ml Suspension 100ml

Medication Name: Flagyl Suspension 125 mg/5 mL (100 mL bottle)
Active Ingredient: Metronidazole 125 mg per 5 mL

Pharmacologic Class: Nitroimidazole antibacterial and antiprotozoal agent

Indications:

• Infections caused by anaerobic bacteria and certain protozoa, such as amoebiasis and giardiasis.

• Suitable for children who require oral suspension form.

Dosage and Administration:

• The dosage depends on the infection type, severity, patient’s weight, and age.

• For children: Usually given every 6–8 hours (three times daily) for 7–10 days, depending on the doctor’s prescription.

• Take with food or shortly after to reduce stomach upset.

• Shake the suspension well before each dose.

Contraindications:

• Hypersensitivity to metronidazole or other nitroimidazole derivatives.

• Not recommended in cases of diarrhea with high fever or bloody stool caused by invasive pathogens.

Precautions:

• Use with caution in patients with liver impairment, as metronidazole is metabolized in the liver.

• Avoid alcohol during treatment and for at least 48 hours after the last dose due to risk of a disulfiram-like reaction (nausea, flushing, vomiting).

• Monitor for neurological effects such as numbness or tingling if used for long periods.

Common Side Effects:

• Nausea and vomiting

• Abdominal pain

• Metallic taste in the mouth

• Headache or dizziness

• Darkened urine (harmless)

Serious Side Effects (rare):

• Tingling or numbness (peripheral neuropathy)

• Seizures (very rare)

• Severe allergic reactions

Storage Conditions:

• Store at room temperature, away from direct sunlight and heat.

• Keep tightly closed and out of reach of children.
