Active Ingredients (per tablet):

• Valsartan 160 mg

• Hydrochlorothiazide 12.5 mg

Pharmacological Class:

• Valsartan: Angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB)

Dosage Form:
Tablets — 28 per pack

Indications:

• Treatment of essential hypertension (high blood pressure) in patients whose blood pressure is not adequately controlled by monotherapy.

• May be used as substitution therapy for patients already stabilized on valsartan and hydrochlorothiazide separately.

Mechanism of Action:

• Valsartan: Blocks the effects of angiotensin II at the AT1 receptor, preventing vasoconstriction and aldosterone secretion, which leads to decreased blood pressure.

• Hydrochlorothiazide: Increases sodium and water excretion by inhibiting sodium reabsorption in the distal renal tubules, reducing plasma volume and blood pressure.

• The combination provides additive antihypertensive effects through complementary mechanisms.

Dosage:

• Usual dose: One tablet once daily, taken with or without food.

• Dosage may be adjusted based on blood pressure response and clinical condition.

Precautions:

• Monitor renal function, serum electrolytes (especially potassium and sodium), and blood pressure regularly.

• Use with caution in patients with renal impairment, hepatic disease, diabetes, or gout.

• Contraindicated in pregnancy, severe renal or hepatic impairment, and anuria.

• Avoid combining with potassium supplements or potassium-sparing diuretics unless prescribed.
