Active Ingredient:
Clindamycin hydrochloride equivalent to 300 mg clindamycin base

Dosage Form:

Indications:

• Upper and lower respiratory tract infections (e.g., tonsillitis, pneumonia, bronchitis)

• Skin and soft tissue infections (acne, abscesses, cellulitis)

• Bone and joint infections (osteomyelitis, septic arthritis)

• Gynecological infections (pelvic inflammatory disease, endometritis)

• Intra-abdominal infections (peritonitis, abscesses)

• Dental infections and oral abscesses

Mechanism of Action:
Clindamycin binds to the 50S ribosomal subunit of susceptible bacteria, inhibiting protein synthesis and thereby stopping bacterial growth (bacteriostatic effect).

Dosage and Administration:

• Adults: 150–300 mg every 6 hours, or 300–450 mg every 6 hours for severe infections.

• Capsules should be taken with a full glass of water to avoid esophageal irritation.

• Duration of therapy depends on the infection and clinical response.

Side Effects:

• Nausea, vomiting, abdominal discomfort

• Diarrhea (may indicate Clostridioides difficile-associated colitis)

• Rash, pruritus

• Elevated liver enzymes

• Vaginal candidiasis with prolonged use

Precautions:

• Stop treatment if severe or persistent diarrhea develops.

• Use cautiously in patients with hepatic impairment.

• Long-term use may promote resistant organisms or fungal infections.

• Use during pregnancy or lactation only if clearly needed and under medical supervision.
