Amrizole 500mg 20 Tablets

Medication Name: Amrizole 500 mg Tablets (20 Tablets)
Active Ingredient: Metronidazole 500 mg

Pharmacologic Class: Nitroimidazole antibacterial and antiprotozoal agent

Indications:

• Amoebiasis (intestinal or hepatic)

• Giardiasis

• Trichomoniasis

• Bacterial vaginosis

• Pelvic inflammatory disease

• Dental and gum infections caused by anaerobic bacteria

• Intra-abdominal, pelvic, and postoperative anaerobic infections

• Adjunct in peptic ulcer treatment caused by Helicobacter pylori (in combination therapy)

Dosage and Administration:
Adults:

• Usual dose: 500 mg every 8 hours for 7–10 days (depending on infection type).

• For anaerobic infections: 500 mg every 8 hours.

• For trichomoniasis: 2 g single dose or 500 mg twice daily for 7 days.
  Elderly or hepatic-impaired patients: Dose adjustment may be required.

Administration:

• Take with or after meals to reduce gastrointestinal discomfort.

• Swallow tablets whole with water.

• Avoid alcohol during treatment and for at least 48 hours after the last dose.

Contraindications:

• Hypersensitivity to metronidazole or other nitroimidazole derivatives.

• History of blood dyscrasias or active central nervous system disease.

• Concomitant alcohol consumption.

Precautions:

• Use with caution in patients with hepatic impairment.

• Monitor for neurological symptoms if used long-term (risk of peripheral neuropathy).

• Use in pregnancy only if clearly indicated (avoid in the first trimester).

• Compatible with breastfeeding only after medical advice.

• Check for possible interactions (e.g., with warfarin, lithium, phenytoin, disulfiram).

Common Side Effects:

• Nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain

• Metallic or bitter taste

• Loss of appetite

• Headache or dizziness

• Dark-colored urine (harmless)

Serious Side Effects (rare):

• Peripheral neuropathy (tingling or numbness)

• Allergic rash or itching

• Convulsions or encephalopathy (very rare, usually with prolonged or high-dose use)
