Composition

• Lidocaine

• Prilocaine
  (Topical local anesthetics)

Indications

• Temporary numbing of the skin before:

  • Minor dermatological procedures

  • Laser hair removal

  • Injections

  • Cosmetic procedures

  • Blood draws or cannulation

Mechanism of Action

• Blocks sodium channels in nerve endings

• Prevents pain signals from reaching the brain

• Produces local numbness in the applied area

Dosage & Administration

• Route: Topical

• Apply a thick layer on the skin 30–60 minutes before the procedure

• Cover with an occlusive dressing for stronger effect (if needed)

• Remove and wipe off before the procedure

Contraindications

• Known hypersensitivity to amide-type anesthetics

• Broken, inflamed, or infected skin

Precautions

• Do not apply to large areas of the body

• Avoid contact with eyes, mouth, and mucous membranes

• Use with caution in patients with:

  • Heart disease

  • Liver impairment

  • G6PD deficiency (rare risk of methemoglobinemia)

Side Effects

• Mild redness or irritation

• Temporary skin blanching

• Rare: methemoglobinemia with excessive use

• Store at room temperature

• Keep away from heat and direct sunlight

• Keep out of reach of children
