Medication Name: Gestranil 21 Tablets

Active Ingredients:

• Ethinylestradiol 0.03 mg

• Gestodene 0.075 mg

Pharmacological Class:
Combined oral contraceptive pill (estrogen + progestogen).

Dosage Form:
Film-coated tablets — 21 tablets per pack (taken for 21 days followed by a 7-day break).

Indications:

• Contraception (prevention of pregnancy)

• Regulation of menstrual cycle

• Reduction of menstrual pain and blood loss

• Improvement of premenstrual symptoms

• Treatment of acne in women who also desire contraception

Mechanism of Action:

• Ethinylestradiol suppresses ovulation by inhibiting gonadotropin secretion and stabilizing the endometrium.

• Gestodene prevents ovulation, thickens cervical mucus, and alters the uterine lining to prevent implantation.

Dosage:
Take one tablet daily at the same time each day for 21 days, followed by a 7-day pill-free interval. Menstrual bleeding typically occurs during the break.

Precautions:

• Do not use in cases of thromboembolic disorders, severe liver disease, or hormone-sensitive cancers.

• Avoid smoking, especially if over 35 years old.

• Some drugs (antibiotics, anticonvulsants, St. John’s wort) may reduce contraceptive efficacy.

• Nausea or vomiting

• Breast tenderness

• Mood changes

• Mild spotting or breakthrough bleeding

• Fluid retention or slight weight change
