Active Ingredient (per tablet):

• Doxazosin (as doxazosin mesylate) 4 mg

Pharmacological Class:

• Alpha-1 adrenergic receptor blocker

Dosage Form:

• Extended-release tablets — 28 per pack

Indications:

• Hypertension (high blood pressure)

• Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) — to relieve urinary obstruction and related symptoms

Mechanism of Action:

• Selectively blocks alpha-1 adrenergic receptors in vascular smooth muscle and the prostate.

• Causes vasodilation, leading to reduced peripheral vascular resistance and lower blood pressure.

• Relaxes smooth muscles in the bladder neck and prostate, improving urinary flow in BPH patients.

Dosage:

• Usual dose: 4 mg once daily, taken in the morning with or without food.

• Dose may be adjusted according to response, but do not crush or chew the extended-release tablet.

Precautions:

• Monitor blood pressure, especially during initial dosing (risk of first-dose hypotension).

• Use cautiously in patients with liver impairment or orthostatic hypotension.

• May cause dizziness or fainting; advise to rise slowly from sitting or lying positions.

• Not recommended for use in severe hepatic impairment.
