Active Ingredient (per tablet):

• Captopril 50 mg

Pharmacological Class:

Dosage Form:

Indications:

• Hypertension (high blood pressure)

• Congestive heart failure

• Left ventricular dysfunction after myocardial infarction

• Diabetic nephropathy in insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus

Mechanism of Action:
Captopril inhibits the angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE), preventing the conversion of angiotensin I to angiotensin II, a potent vasoconstrictor. This results in vasodilation, reduced aldosterone secretion, decreased blood pressure, and improved cardiac workload.

Dosage:

• Hypertension: 25–50 mg twice daily

• Heart failure: Start with 6.25–12.5 mg two or three times daily, titrate as needed

• Post-myocardial infarction or diabetic nephropathy: Dose adjusted individually

• Should be taken 1 hour before meals for best absorption

Precautions:

• Monitor renal function and serum potassium regularly

• Avoid in pregnancy, bilateral renal artery stenosis, or history of angioedema

• Use caution in renal impairment and hypotension

• Avoid combining with potassium-sparing diuretics or potassium supplements unless directed

Common Side Effects:

• Persistent dry cough

• Dizziness or hypotension

• Elevated serum creatinine or potassium

• Rash or altered taste

• Fatigue

• Rare: Angioedema
