Atacand Plus 32/25 mg (14 Tablets)

Active Ingredients:

• Candesartan cilexetil 32 mg (Angiotensin II receptor blocker – ARB)

• Hydrochlorothiazide 25 mg (Thiazide diuretic)

Therapeutic Class:
Antihypertensive combination (ARB + diuretic)

Indications:

• Treatment of essential hypertension in patients whose blood pressure is not adequately controlled by candesartan or hydrochlorothiazide alone.

• May be used as part of a combination regimen for patients requiring more than one antihypertensive agent.

Dosage:

• Usual adult dose: one tablet once daily, preferably at the same time each day.

• Can be taken with or without food.

• The dose should be adjusted according to blood pressure response and individual tolerance.

Mechanism of Action:

• Candesartan: Blocks angiotensin II receptors, leading to vasodilation and decreased blood pressure.

• Hydrochlorothiazide: Promotes the excretion of sodium and water through the kidneys, reducing blood volume and pressure.

Precautions:

• Contraindicated in:

  • Severe renal impairment or anuria

  • Hypersensitivity to candesartan, hydrochlorothiazide, or sulfonamide derivatives

  • Pregnancy (especially 2nd and 3rd trimesters)

• Use cautiously in patients with:

  • Renal or hepatic impairment

  • Gout, diabetes, or electrolyte imbalances (low sodium or potassium)

• Regular monitoring of kidney function, electrolytes, and blood pressure is recommended.

• Avoid potassium supplements or potassium-sparing diuretics unless prescribed.

• May cause dizziness—use caution when driving or operating machinery.

Possible Side Effects:

• Dizziness or lightheadedness

• Fatigue or weakness

• Headache

• Increased urination

• Electrolyte imbalance (low potassium, sodium, or magnesium)

• Muscle cramps or thirst (due to dehydration)

• Rare: allergic reactions, photosensitivity, or elevated uric acid (gout attacks)
