Ezapril Co 20/12.5 mg (30 Tablets)

Active Ingredients:

• Enalapril 20 mg (ACE inhibitor)

• Hydrochlorothiazide 12.5 mg (Thiazide diuretic)

Therapeutic Class:
Combination antihypertensive – ACE inhibitor + Thiazide diuretic

Indications:

• Hypertension (high blood pressure) in adults, especially when monotherapy is insufficient.

• May be used to reduce cardiovascular risk in patients requiring dual therapy.

Dosage:

• Usual adult dose: One tablet once daily, preferably in the morning.

• Can be taken with or without food.

• Dose adjustments may be required based on blood pressure response, kidney function, and electrolyte levels.

Mechanism of Action:

• Enalapril: Inhibits angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE), reducing angiotensin II levels, leading to vasodilation and decreased aldosterone-mediated sodium and water retention.

• Hydrochlorothiazide: Increases sodium and water excretion, reducing blood volume and further lowering blood pressure.

• The combination provides synergistic antihypertensive effect through complementary mechanisms.

Precautions:

• Contraindicated in:

  • Pregnancy and breastfeeding

  • History of angioedema related to ACE inhibitors

  • Severe renal impairment

  • Hypersensitivity to enalapril or hydrochlorothiazide

• Use with caution in:

  • Electrolyte imbalances (especially potassium)

  • Kidney or liver impairment

  • Heart failure or volume depletion

• Monitor blood pressure, kidney function, and electrolytes regularly.

Possible Side Effects:

• Dizziness or lightheadedness

• Fatigue

• Cough (ACE inhibitor-related)

• Electrolyte disturbances (low sodium, high potassium)

• Peripheral edema

• Rare: angioedema, hypotension, kidney impairment
