Medication Name: Amrizole N 5 Vaginal Suppositories

Active Ingredients (per suppository):

• Metronidazole 500 mg

• Nystatin 100,000 IU

Pharmacological Class:
Antiprotozoal and antifungal combination

Dosage Form:
Vaginal suppositories

Indications:

• Mixed vaginal infections caused by Trichomonas vaginalis and Candida albicans

• Bacterial vaginosis

• Vaginal discharge with itching, burning, or unpleasant odor

Mechanism of Action:

• Metronidazole: Destroys anaerobic bacteria and Trichomonas vaginalis by disrupting DNA synthesis.

• Nystatin: Binds to sterols in the fungal cell membrane, causing leakage of cellular components and fungal cell death.

Dosage and Administration:

• One vaginal suppository inserted deeply into the vagina once daily (preferably at bedtime) for 5–7 days or as prescribed.

• It is recommended to complete the full course even if symptoms improve.

• Avoid sexual intercourse during treatment.

Side Effects:

• Mild vaginal irritation or burning

• Itching

• Local discomfort or discharge

• Rare: allergic reactions

Precautions:

• Not to be used during menstruation

• Avoid alcohol during and for at least 48 hours after treatment (due to metronidazole interaction)

• Consult a doctor before use during pregnancy or breastfeeding

• If symptoms persist after treatment, reevaluation by a physician is advised
