Gynodaktarin vaginal cream

Medication Name: Gynodaktarin Vaginal Cream
Active Ingredient: Miconazole nitrate 2%
Drug Class: Antifungal (azole class)

Indications:

Gynodaktarin is used for treatment of vaginal fungal infections (candidiasis/yeast infection), which may present with:

• Vaginal itching or irritation

• Abnormal discharge (white, thick, cottage-cheese-like)

• Redness or swelling of the vulva or vaginal area

Mechanism of Action:

• Miconazole inhibits ergosterol synthesis, a key component of the fungal cell membrane.

• Disrupts the membrane, leading to death of fungal cells and resolution of infection.

Dosage and Administration:

• Adults: Apply the cream intravaginally using the applicator once or twice daily, usually for 7 consecutive days, as directed by the doctor.

• Wash hands before and after application.

• Avoid sexual intercourse or use a condom during treatment, as the cream may weaken latex.

• Do not use the cream orally or on broken skin.

Side Effects:

• Mild burning, itching, or irritation after application

• Vaginal discharge or discomfort

• Rare: allergic reactions such as rash or swelling

Warnings and Precautions:

• For intravaginal use only.

• Avoid combining with other vaginal medications unless advised.

• If symptoms persist for more than 7 days or worsen, consult a healthcare provider.

• Use with caution in pregnancy; consult a doctor before use.
