Medication Name: Butaximark 1% Topical Cream 15 g
Active Ingredient: Mupirocin 1% w/w
Drug Class: Topical antibiotic

Indications:

Butaximark cream is used for treatment of superficial bacterial skin infections, including:

• Impetigo

• Folliculitis (infected hair follicles)

• Minor cuts, abrasions, or wounds infected with susceptible bacteria

• Secondary infections in eczema or dermatitis

Mechanism of Action:

• Mupirocin inhibits bacterial protein synthesis by binding to isoleucyl-tRNA synthetase.

• This prevents bacterial growth and eliminates infection, primarily against Staphylococcus aureus and Streptococcus species.

Dosage and Administration:

• Apply a thin layer to the affected area 2–3 times daily.

• Wash hands before and after application.

• Cover with a sterile bandage if advised by a doctor.

• Usually used for up to 10 days, depending on severity.

Side Effects:

• Mild burning, stinging, or itching at the application site

• Redness or irritation

• Rare: allergic reaction (rash, swelling)

Warnings and Precautions:

• For external use only.

• Avoid contact with eyes or mucous membranes.

• Do not use on large areas or deep wounds unless directed by a healthcare professional.

• Overuse may lead to resistance or secondary infection.
