Active Ingredients:

Empagliflozin 12.5 mg (SGLT2 inhibitor)

Metformin hydrochloride 1000 mg (Biguanide)
Therapeutic Class:
Oral antidiabetic combination (SGLT2 inhibitor + Biguanide)
Indications:

Treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus in adults.

Used to improve glycemic control when diet, exercise, and metformin alone are insufficient.

Helps lower blood glucose by:
-
Increasing urinary glucose excretion (Empagliflozin).
-
Reducing hepatic glucose production and improving insulin sensitivity (Metformin).

May also provide cardiovascular and renal protective benefits in diabetic patients.
Dosage:
-
Usual dose: one tablet twice daily, taken with meals to reduce gastrointestinal side effects.

Dose adjustments depend on previous antidiabetic therapy and kidney function.

Swallow whole; do not crush or chew.
Precautions:

Contraindicated in patients with severe renal impairment (eGFR < 45 mL/min/1.73 m²), metabolic acidosis, or diabetic ketoacidosis.

Monitor renal function before and during therapy.

Use with caution in elderly patients or those prone to dehydration.

Temporarily discontinue before major surgery or contrast imaging procedures.

Avoid excessive alcohol intake to reduce risk of lactic acidosis.
Possible Side Effects:

Genital yeast infections or urinary tract infections (due to glucosuria)

Increased urination or thirst

Nausea, diarrhea, or stomach upset (mostly due to metformin)

Hypoglycemia (especially if combined with insulin or sulfonylureas)

Rare: lactic acidosis (a serious but uncommon reaction)
