Exforge 5/160 mg (14 Tablets)

Active Ingredients:

• Amlodipine 5 mg – Calcium channel blocker

• Valsartan 160 mg – Angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB)

Therapeutic Class:
Dual combination antihypertensive medication

Indications:

• Essential hypertension, particularly in patients whose blood pressure is not adequately controlled by either amlodipine or valsartan alone

• Helps reduce the risk of stroke, heart attack, and kidney complications due to uncontrolled hypertension

Dosage:

• Usual dose: One tablet once daily

• May be taken with or without food, preferably at the same time each day

• Dose adjustments may be made depending on blood pressure response and patient tolerance

Mechanism of Action:

• Amlodipine: Inhibits calcium entry into vascular smooth muscle, leading to vasodilation and decreased peripheral resistance.

• Valsartan: Blocks angiotensin II type 1 receptors, preventing vasoconstriction and reducing aldosterone secretion, resulting in lower blood pressure.

Precautions:

• Contraindicated in:

  • Pregnancy (especially during 2nd and 3rd trimesters)

  • Severe hepatic or renal impairment

  • Hypersensitivity to any component of the medication

• Caution in:

  • Dehydration or volume depletion

  • Severe heart failure or aortic stenosis

  • Electrolyte imbalances

Possible Side Effects:

• Dizziness or lightheadedness

• Headache

• Fatigue

• Peripheral edema (swelling of legs or ankles)

• Flushing

• Hypotension (low blood pressure)

• Nausea or abdominal discomfort
