Medication Name: Ciprocin 0.3% Eye Ointment 5gm

Active Ingredient:
Ciprofloxacin 0.3% (3 mg per 1 g of ointment)

Pharmacological Class:
Fluoroquinolone antibiotic (ophthalmic preparation)

Indications:
Used for the treatment of bacterial eye infections, including:

• Bacterial conjunctivitis

• Corneal ulcers

• Blepharitis (eyelid inflammation)

• Other external ocular infections caused by susceptible bacteria

Mechanism of Action:
Ciprofloxacin inhibits bacterial DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, enzymes necessary for DNA replication, transcription, and repair, leading to bacterial cell death.

Dosage and Administration:

• Adults and children (≥1 year): Apply a small amount (approximately 1 cm ribbon) to the affected eye(s) 3–4 times daily, or as directed by a physician.

• Route: Ophthalmic (for external eye use only)

• Wash hands before and after application.

• Avoid touching the tip of the tube to the eye or any surface.

Precautions:

• For ophthalmic use only; do not inject or ingest.

• Discontinue use if signs of hypersensitivity or severe irritation occur.

• Avoid wearing contact lenses during treatment.

• Use with caution in patients with a history of tendon disorders related to fluoroquinolones.

Possible Side Effects:

• Mild eye irritation or discomfort after application

• Temporary blurred vision

• Redness or itching of the eye

• Rare: hypersensitivity reactions or corneal deposits with prolonged use
