Medication Name: Cipro 0.3% Ear Drops 10ml

Active Ingredient:
Ciprofloxacin 0.3% (3 mg per 1 ml of solution)

Pharmacological Class:
Fluoroquinolone antibiotic (otic preparation)

Indications:
Used for the treatment of bacterial ear infections, including:

• Otitis externa (infection of the outer ear canal)

• Otitis media with tympanostomy tubes (in children or adults)

• Chronic suppurative otitis media caused by susceptible bacteria

Mechanism of Action:
Ciprofloxacin inhibits bacterial DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, enzymes essential for bacterial DNA replication, transcription, and repair. This results in bacterial cell death.

Dosage and Administration:

• Adults and children (≥1 year):

  • Usually 3–4 drops into the affected ear twice daily for 7–14 days, or as prescribed by a physician.

• Route: Otic (for ear use only)

• Warm the bottle in hand before use to reduce dizziness from cold drops.

• Keep the affected ear upward for at least 1–2 minutes after instillation to allow absorption.

• Do not insert objects (e.g., cotton swabs) into the ear canal after application.

Precautions:

• For ear use only; do not use in the eyes or take orally.

• Avoid use if there is a known hypersensitivity to ciprofloxacin or other quinolones.

• Stop use if rash, itching, or worsening infection occurs.

• Do not use if the eardrum is perforated unless prescribed specifically for that condition.

Possible Side Effects:

• Mild irritation, itching, or discomfort in the ear

• Transient stinging or burning sensation

• Rare: dizziness or headache

• Very rare: allergic reactions (rash, swelling, or itching)
