Active Ingredient:
Ciprofloxacin 200 mg per 100 ml (as ciprofloxacin lactate)

Pharmacological Class:
Fluoroquinolone antibiotic

Indications:
Used for the treatment of moderate to severe bacterial infections caused by susceptible organisms, including:

• Respiratory tract infections (pneumonia, bronchitis)

• Urinary tract infections (UTIs, pyelonephritis)

• Intra-abdominal infections

• Skin and soft tissue infections

• Bone and joint infections

• Septicemia

• Infections in immunocompromised patients

Mechanism of Action:
Ciprofloxacin inhibits bacterial DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, enzymes necessary for bacterial DNA replication and repair, leading to cell death.

Dosage and Administration:

• Route: Intravenous infusion only

• Typical adult dose: 200–400 mg every 8–12 hours, depending on the severity and type of infection.

• Infusion time: Administer slowly over 60 minutes to minimize risk of local irritation or venous inflammation.

• Do not mix with other IV medications in the same line.

Precautions:

• Contraindicated in patients hypersensitive to ciprofloxacin or other quinolones.

• Use cautiously in patients with CNS disorders, seizure risk, or renal impairment (dose adjustment may be required).

• Avoid excessive sun exposure (risk of photosensitivity).

• Ensure adequate hydration to prevent crystalluria.

• Avoid use in pregnancy and breastfeeding unless absolutely necessary.

Possible Side Effects:

• Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea

• Headache, dizziness

• Rash or pruritus

• Phlebitis at the injection site

• Rare: tendon inflammation or rupture

• Very rare: CNS effects (confusion, tremor, hallucination), QT prolongation
