Medication Name: Tavacin 750mg 5 Tablets

Active Ingredient:
Levofloxacin 750 mg (as levofloxacin hemihydrate)

Pharmacological Class:
Fluoroquinolone antibiotic

Indications:
Used for bacterial infections caused by susceptible organisms, including:

• Community-acquired pneumonia

• Acute bacterial sinusitis

• Complicated urinary tract infections and pyelonephritis

• Skin and soft tissue infections

• Chronic bronchitis exacerbations

Mechanism of Action:
Levofloxacin inhibits bacterial DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, enzymes essential for bacterial DNA replication and repair, resulting in bacterial death.

Dosage and Administration:

• Typical adult dose: 750 mg orally once daily.

• Duration: Usually 5 days for pneumonia, 5–10 days for urinary or skin infections.

• Swallow whole with water; may be taken with or without food.

• Adjust dose in patients with renal impairment.

Side Effects:

• Nausea, diarrhea, headache, dizziness

• Insomnia, constipation, abdominal discomfort

• Rare: tendon rupture, QT prolongation, hypersensitivity reactions, peripheral neuropathy

Precautions:

• Contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to quinolones.

• Avoid use in children, pregnant or breastfeeding women unless necessary.

• Use with caution in patients with renal impairment or seizure disorders.

• Avoid exposure to direct sunlight or UV light during therapy.

• Avoid concurrent use with corticosteroids or QT-prolonging drugs.

Storage:
Store below 30°C in a dry place, away from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
