Dalacin 2% Vaginal Cream

Medication Name: Dalacin 2% Vaginal Cream

Active Ingredient:
Clindamycin phosphate equivalent to 2% clindamycin base

Pharmacological Class:
Lincosamide antibiotic

Dosage Form:
Vaginal cream (40 g tube with applicator)

Indications:

• Treatment of bacterial vaginosis caused by susceptible anaerobic bacteria (e.g., Gardnerella vaginalis, Mobiluncus spp., Mycoplasma hominis, Bacteroides spp.).

Mechanism of Action:
Clindamycin inhibits bacterial protein synthesis by binding to the 50S subunit of the bacterial ribosome, preventing peptide chain elongation and inhibiting bacterial growth.

Dosage and Administration:

• Apply one full applicator (approx. 5 g of cream = 100 mg clindamycin) intravaginally once daily at bedtime for 7 consecutive days.

• Insert the applicator gently into the vagina while lying on the back with knees bent.

• Wash applicator thoroughly or dispose if single-use.

Side Effects:

• Vaginal irritation, itching, or discharge

• Mild abdominal pain or cramps

• Diarrhea (rare, may indicate pseudomembranous colitis)

• Headache

• Local burning or dryness

Precautions:

• Avoid sexual intercourse during treatment.

• Do not use during menstruation.

• Use with caution in patients with a history of antibiotic-associated colitis.

• May weaken latex condoms or diaphragms during and for several days after use.

• Consult a doctor before use during pregnancy (Category B).
