Active Ingredient:
Clindamycin hydrochloride equivalent to 300 mg clindamycin base

Pharmacological Class:
Lincosamide antibiotic

Dosage Form:
Capsules for oral administration — 10 capsules per pack

Indications:

• Respiratory tract infections (upper and lower)

• Skin and soft tissue infections (e.g., acne, abscesses, cellulitis)

• Bone and joint infections (e.g., osteomyelitis)

• Gynecological infections (e.g., pelvic inflammatory disease)

• Intra-abdominal infections

• Septicemia and endocarditis (as part of combination therapy)

• Dental infections and oral abscesses

Mechanism of Action:
Clindamycin inhibits bacterial protein synthesis by binding to the 50S subunit of the bacterial ribosome, preventing peptide chain elongation and inhibiting bacterial growth.

Dosage and Administration:

• Adults: 150–300 mg every 6 hours, or 300–450 mg every 6 hours for more severe infections.

• Capsules should be swallowed whole with a full glass of water to prevent esophageal irritation.

• Duration depends on infection type and response to therapy.

Side Effects:

• Gastrointestinal disturbances (nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, diarrhea)

• Rash or pruritus

• Pseudomembranous colitis (rare but serious)

• Elevated liver enzymes

• Vaginal irritation or discharge (due to Candida overgrowth)

Precautions:

• Discontinue immediately if severe diarrhea occurs (possible Clostridioides difficile colitis).

• Use with caution in patients with liver impairment.

• Avoid unnecessary prolonged use to reduce resistance risk.

• Safe use during pregnancy should be based on medical advice.
