Medication Name: Cardura 1 mg tablets
Active Ingredient: Doxazosin mesylate 1 mg
Drug Class: Alpha-1 adrenergic blocker
Indications:
Cardura is used for:

Hypertension (high blood pressure) – helps relax blood vessels so blood can flow more easily.

Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) – relieves urinary symptoms caused by an enlarged prostate such as:

Difficulty starting urination
-
Weak stream
-
Frequent or urgent urination (especially at night)
-
Mechanism of Action:
Doxazosin blocks alpha-1 receptors in the vascular smooth muscle and prostate, leading to:

Vasodilation, lowering blood pressure.
-
Relaxation of the prostate and bladder neck muscles, improving urine flow in BPH.
Dosage and Administration:

Initial dose: 1 mg once daily, usually taken at bedtime to reduce the risk of dizziness or fainting (first-dose effect).

The dose may be gradually increased by the physician based on response, typically up to 4–8 mg once daily.

Can be taken with or without food.

Take the tablet at the same time each day.
Side Effects:

Dizziness or lightheadedness (especially after the first dose)

Fatigue or drowsiness

Headache

Swelling of legs or feet (edema)

Nasal congestion

Palpitations or low blood pressure
Warnings and Precautions:

Use caution when standing up from sitting or lying down (may cause sudden drop in blood pressure).

Avoid driving or operating machinery until you know how it affects you.

If used for BPH, treatment may be combined with other prostate medications such as finasteride if needed.
